Primary Purpose:
To assume leadership in managing office operations, such as correspondence preparation, file maintenance, and material preparation for the Special Services Department.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
High School Diploma or equivalency
Paraprofessional Certification (will need to obtain if not already certified)
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Previous secretarial experience, preferred
Proficient typing, file maintenance, computer, and organizational skills
Willingness to learn laws associated with special education student files.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Manages all routine office procedures.
- Orders and maintains office supplies as needed.
- Assists in clerical duties such as typing, duplication, and filing materials.
- Follows acceptable procedures in receiving and returning telephone communications.
- Assists in the organization and maintenance of confidential files.
- Assists in maintaining records of student referrals, evaluation, and ARD committee meetings.
- Alerts the diagnostician to any problem or special information concerning the special education department in the school.
- Assists with the preparation of special projects, proposals, and reports.
- Assists in maintaining computer information for the special education materials retrieval system.
- Assists in maintaining computer information for all individual student records.
- Exemplifies high standards of ethical conduct according to Board Policy.
- Displays tolerance necessary for accepting supervision for and criticism of duty performance.
- Works in harmony with supervisory, faculty, and peer personnel.
- Uses professional information discreetly, judiciously, and confidentially.
- Supports administrative policy.
- Represents the school system to the community in a positive, professional way.
- Maintains a sincere, friendly attitude toward parents to insure communication.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
