Primary Purpose:
Implement evaluation duties for assigned campus(es) that will result in provision of services in compliance with state and federal guidelines.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Master’s Degree and
Valid Texas license as a licensed specialist in school psychology granted by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists or valid Texas certificate as an educational diagnostician
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of procedures for assessing achievement and intellectual, emotional, and behavioral functioning for educational purposes
Knowledge of prevention and intervention strategies, including behavior management interventions
Knowledge of psycho-social development
Strong consultation skills for conferencing with teachers, parents, and students
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Performance Effectiveness: Preparation and Planning
- Obtain data reports in order to maintain schedule for timely completion of reevaluations.
- Plan evaluation schedule to optimize time in order to meet required timelines.
- Coordinate with other members of the multidisciplinary team to provide coordinated evaluation within timelines.
- Collaborate and coordinate with campus staff to attend appropriate ARD/IEP meetings.
- Maintain adequate supply of protocols, etc. and place order for materials in a timely manner.
- Assist other professionals as time permits.
- Develop appropriate goals and objectives for the students in the program.
- Attend and/or provide information to the ARD/IEP committee as appropriate.
- Communicate with building administrators regarding TEKS, TAKS and STAAR.
- Maintain required information in eligibility folders on assigned campus(es).
- Conduct monitoring review of eligibility folders on assigned campus(es) according to district procedure. Report discrepancies and corrective action plan to the special education director or supervisor.
- Maintain and monitor PEIMS data requirements on assigned campus(es).
- Submit reports as requested for Medicaid reimbursement.
- Communicate information to the special education director or supervisor as appropriate.
- Provide documentation of services to director as requested.
Performance Effectiveness: Knowledge and Techniques
- Consult and coordinate with teachers to assist in intervention academic/non-academic strategies and techniques.
- Utilize various evaluation instruments and techniques both academic/non-academic, as a part of a multidisciplinary team to assist in identifying students with disabilities.
- Write compliant evaluation reports documenting state and federal requirements.
- Demonstrates high degree of knowledge, understanding and skill regarding special education compliance mandated by federal regulations and state rules.
- Train and assist teachers to monitor and evaluate the academic/non-academic strategies.
- Provide academic/non-academic instructional techniques and materials to meet individual needs.
- Assist school staff members with intervention strategies and techniques regarding discipline problems.
- Utilize preventive strategies to remove social/emotional barriers to academic success.
- Participate in development of Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) and Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) as appropriate .
- Train and assist teachers in charting and documentation as needed.
- Consult with community agencies, programs and professionals regarding the needs of referred students.
- Train and assist teachers in doing criterion-referenced testing as needed.
- Provide parent training as needed.
- Provide individual or group counseling based on evaluation, the IEP, and ARD/IEP committee recommendation.
- Provide training on the campus as requested by the principal or director.
- Seek and attends as required, professional growth and training in areas needing improvement.
Performance Effectiveness: Staff and Parent Relations
- Serve as a liaison between parents, general and special education..
- Communicate with appropriate school personnel regarding evaluation results and academic/non-academic strategies
- Provide consultation to parents and school staff regarding the psychological needs of students as they relate to the educational setting and process.
- Assist school personnel in the development of classroom management strategies.
- Coordinates and collaborates with school professionals to benefit students.
- Collaborate with local agencies, physicians as needed.
- Coordinate with local ECI programs as appropriate.
- Assist with Child Find as requested.
- Displays sensitivity to the concerns of staff members and colleagues.
- Works cooperatively and constructively with other departments, staff, and parents.
- Provides consultative assistance to teachers upon request (including academic/non academic strategies, assist with IEP goals/objectives, campus folders, etc.) and provides follow-up as needed.
