Primary Purpose:

Implement evaluation duties for assigned campus(es) that will result in provision of services in compliance with state and federal guidelines.

 

Qualifications:

 

            Education/Certification:

            Master’s Degree and

            Valid Texas license as a licensed specialist in school psychology granted by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists or valid Texas certificate as an educational diagnostician

 

            Special Knowledge/Skills:

            Knowledge of procedures for assessing achievement and intellectual, emotional, and behavioral functioning for educational purposes

            Knowledge of prevention and intervention strategies, including behavior management interventions

            Knowledge of psycho-social development

            Strong consultation skills for conferencing with teachers, parents, and students

            Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

           

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

 

Performance Effectiveness:  Preparation and Planning

  1. Obtain data reports in order to maintain schedule for timely completion of reevaluations.
  2. Plan evaluation schedule to optimize time in order to meet required timelines.
  3. Coordinate with other members of the multidisciplinary team to provide coordinated evaluation within timelines.
  4. Collaborate and coordinate with campus staff to attend appropriate ARD/IEP meetings.
  5. Maintain adequate supply of protocols, etc. and place order for materials in a timely manner.
  6. Assist other professionals as time permits.
  7. Develop appropriate goals and objectives for the students in the program.
  8. Attend and/or provide information to the ARD/IEP committee as appropriate.
  9. Communicate with building administrators regarding TEKS, TAKS and STAAR.
  10. Maintain required information in eligibility folders on assigned campus(es).
  11. Conduct monitoring review of eligibility folders on assigned campus(es) according to district procedure. Report discrepancies and corrective action plan to the special education director or supervisor.
  12. Maintain and monitor PEIMS data requirements on assigned campus(es).
  13. Submit reports as requested for Medicaid reimbursement.
  14. Communicate information to the special education director or supervisor as appropriate.
  15. Provide documentation of services to director as requested.

 

Performance Effectiveness:  Knowledge and Techniques

  1. Consult and coordinate with teachers to assist in intervention academic/non-academic strategies and techniques.
  2. Utilize various evaluation instruments and techniques both academic/non-academic, as a part of a multidisciplinary team to assist in identifying students with disabilities.
  3. Write compliant evaluation reports documenting state and federal requirements.
  4. Demonstrates high degree of knowledge, understanding and skill regarding special education compliance mandated by federal regulations and state rules.
  5. Train and assist teachers to monitor and evaluate the academic/non-academic strategies.
  6. Provide academic/non-academic instructional techniques and materials to meet individual needs.
  7. Assist school staff members with intervention strategies and techniques regarding discipline problems.
  8. Utilize preventive strategies to remove social/emotional barriers to academic success.
  9. Participate in development of Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) and Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) as appropriate .
  10. Train and assist teachers in charting and documentation as needed.
  11. Consult with community agencies, programs and professionals regarding the needs of referred students.
  12. Train and assist teachers in doing criterion-referenced testing as needed.
  13. Provide parent training as needed.
  14. Provide individual or group counseling based on evaluation, the IEP, and ARD/IEP committee recommendation.
  15. Provide training on the campus as requested by the principal or director.
  16. Seek and attends as required, professional growth and training in areas needing improvement.

 

Performance Effectiveness:  Staff and Parent Relations

  1. Serve as a liaison between parents, general and special education..
  2. Communicate with appropriate school personnel regarding evaluation results and academic/non-academic strategies
  3. Provide consultation to parents and school staff regarding the psychological needs of students as they relate to the educational setting and process.
  4. Assist school personnel in the development of classroom management strategies.
  5. Coordinates and collaborates with school professionals to benefit students.
  6. Collaborate with local agencies, physicians as needed.
  7. Coordinate with local ECI programs as appropriate.
  8. Assist with Child Find as requested.
  9. Displays sensitivity to the concerns of staff members and colleagues.
  10. Works cooperatively and constructively with other departments, staff, and parents.
  11. Provides consultative assistance to teachers upon request (including academic/non academic strategies, assist with IEP goals/objectives, campus folders, etc.) and provides follow-up as needed.

Working Conditions

            Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

            Maintain emotional control under stress;  frequent district and statewide travel; may need to lift and/or move students from wheelchair or reposition students with physical disabilities.
