Description

Primary Purpose:

The role of the behavior specialist is to assist campuses in facilitating effective behavioral systems relating to PBIS, Restorative Practices, and behavior intervention by providing targeted support to campus teams and campus staff.

 

 

Qualifications:

Educational/Certification:

  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • Valid Texas teacher certificate preferred

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of behavioral intervention design and implementation
  • Ability to evaluate instruction/behavioral programs and teaching effectiveness
  • Ability to apply a gradually progressive system of verbal and non-verbal strategies to effectively de-escalate situations. 
  • Ability to develop and deliver training to adult learners
  • Ability to interpret data
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Maintain a flexible schedule to work with a variety of adults and students by being a self starter, prioritize needs and complete tasks without supervision. 
  • Possess behavior intervention strategies and ability to respond quickly to escalated situations
  • Ability to physically engage with students: quickly move around the campus, participate in physical restraints, and engage in de-escalation to ensure safety for all involved 
  • Demonstrate emotional control with students exhibiting non-compliant or acting-out behaviors. 
  • Requires flexibility with job assignments to multiple campuses based on student needs.
  • Moderate lifting and carrying
  • Assist in crisis prevention.
  • Ability to develop and present ideas effectively, both orally and written.

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Maintain a flexible schedule to work with a variety of campuses by being a self starter, prioritize needs and complete tasks without constant supervision. 
  • Observe and consult with campus staff and administration on an ongoing and proactive basis. 
  • Provide classroom teachers with research based behavior approaches and strategies. 
  • Facilitate problem solving techniques in meetings with a variety of personnel.
  • Participate in developing, coordinating and the implementation of behavior strategies and plans.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues and students
  • Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly to colleagues and students
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job related skills
  • Compile, maintain and file all physical and computerized reports, records and other documents required
  • Comply with federal, state, district and school regulations, and policies
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
