Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree
Appropriate certification in Teacher of students with visual impairments (CTVI) and/or Orientation & Mobility specialist (COMS) or willingness to pursue
Experience preferred
Major responsibilities:
Provide evaluations of visually impaired students, specifically in the areas of the special curriculum and functional low vision.
Provide evaluations of orientation and mobility, specifically in the areas of the special curriculum and functional low vision.
Provide consultation to other members of the evaluation team on effective and appropriate assessment techniques for use with visually handicapped students.
Participate actively in the multidisciplinary team process in annually developing and reviewing IEPs.
Provide direct instruction in areas specified on the IEP, specifically in areas of the special curriculum (VI - Braille reading and writing, utilization of low vision devices, listening skills, basic concepts,social skills, vocational training, technology and daily living skills. O&M - Rural, commercial, and business travel).
Assists in arranging involvement in extracurricular activities of interest to the student.
Provide adapted materials and equipment to assure maximum participation in the educational process.
Attends ARD meetings for VI and O&M students.
Make recommendations concerning adaptations in the environment to meet the needs of the individual students.

Strong communication, consultation, and conferencing skills
Strong written language skills and computer skills
Ability to act as a liaison between campus and parents
Must be self-directed and able to work with little supervision
